Water is an integral part of oil and gas operations. Globally, nearly 70 billion barrels of produced water are generated each year.1 On average, four million gallons of water are used to fracture a single shale well - enough water to supply a community of 40,000 people. Most of that water is returned to the surface over time, called produced water, and carries with it dissolved solids from underground formations.
Produced water handling is a complex problem. The cost of sourcing, treating and disposing of water ranges from 10 to 25% of the total cost to produce oil and gas. Oasys offers a cost effective means to treat produced water and reuse it, giving energy producers a viable, sustainable solution. We are currently working with service providers around the globe to bring our technology to this important market.
